Diesel Exhaust Fluid
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a specific chemical composition of urea and deionized water. The Clean Air Act required all diesel vehicles produced in the U.S.A. starting January, 2010 to meet tighter emission standards. DEF is sprayed into the exhaust stream of diesel powered engines, and breaks down nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions into nitrogen and water. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems utilize DEF and have improved heavy duty engine lubricant life, and improved fuel economy.
